Here at Ballynahinch Castle, head gardener Cian Cunniffe and our estate team have been working hard to prepare the gardens for the spring. The team have been busy planting over 60,000 bulbs in the walled garden, estate gardens and containers.
The team are using arrangement of different bulbs which include daffodils, tulips, alliums, crocuses, camassias, grape hyacinths and snowdrops to create a dynamic and colourful spring garden.
To add variety there are 20 different varieties of tulips planted this year which add to the 10 (approximately) from previous years. In the Walled Garden, the team have created a long border (30 meters long) and have planted over 20,000 bulbs in it. On the front avenue, 8,000 daffodil bulbs have been planted for a bright and cheerful spring welcome to the castle. Currently, the team are working on planting over 200 various size pots, which are being planted with tulip mixes for a pop of colour around the hotel.
With all this hard work, we are all excited to see these bright and colourful displays come to life in the spring.
