Few hotels in Ireland have a beginning like Ballynahinch Castle Hotel. Located in the heart of Connemara, Ballynahinch or Baile na hlnse, means ‘household of the Island’, and refers to the O’Flaherty Castle built on an Island in the lake. This was the small castle built on Ballynahinch Lake by one of the O'Flaherty clan, the husband of Grace O'Malley, more famously known as Grainneuaile. In the 18th Century Robert Martin built the current house beside the river as an inn, in 1813 Robert’s son Martin moved into the Ballynahinch.
